Disorder in the House was the first presentation of the collection of contemporary art that Walter Vanhaerents has assembled across thirty years. The Vanhaerents Art Collection is housed in a former sanitary equipment warehouse in the heart of Brussels dating from 1926.
Walter Vanhaerents collects recent works of relatively young artists. By bringing together and confronting various artists in a surprising way, new connections, insights and meanings are created. The fruitful cross-fertilisation between high and low art runs like a thread through the work shown here, including references to film but also to the work of Andy Warhol and his legacy. This makes Disorder in the House not just a young, dynamic, extroverted, exuberant and provocative exhibition, but, unwittingly a beautiful display about art at the beginning of the twenty-first century, without losing sight of the broader context of this recent history.
